Smoking Increases Lung Cancer Risks

It would almost seem like a given in this day and age that people would know and understand that smoking greatly increases the risk of lung cancer. Secondhand smoke has even been linked with increased lung cancer risks. Even were a person to never smoke a cigarette or be subjected to secondhand smoke, the possibility of lung cancer remains very real. But smoking cigarettes is nothing short of adding more bullets to a gun being used to play Russian Roulette eventually, the odds of getting lung cancer will become impossible to ignore. In a normal body, cells grow and divide in an orderly manner. However, this order can break down. When this collapse in order occurs, cells begin dividing and growing at will and chaos results. This resulting chaos and breakdown of normal cell growth is called cancer. Normally, cancer will appear as a tumor, or perhaps even the dreaded growth . In some cases, the cancer will remain isolated to a particular spot or organ. However, it is not entirely uncommon for cancer to spread beyond its initial area into other regions of the body or organs. Spreading cancer is also known as metastasis. Lung cancer has...

Protect Your Legs For The Important Things In Life

It isn t only accidents and wars that result in amputations; peripheral arterial disease PAD can lead to loss of a leg. It affects 8 to 12 million people in the U.S., especially those over 50. African Americans and Hispanics are at particular risk for PAD. Peripheral arteries carry blood and oxygen from your aorta to your legs and feet. As you get older, plaque can build up in peripheral arteries and block the flow of blood, making it hard for them to do their job. This can cause pain or aching in legs with walking, resting pain in feet, or lead to infections or ulcers in toes or feet. In advanced cases, when the diagnosis is made late, amputation may be necessary, particularly among diabetics. Because there may be no symptoms in the early stages of PAD, it s important that your primary care doctor test you if you are over 50. If evidence of PAD is found, you should see a vascular surgeon, who can offer treatments that may save your legs.

Spare A Gram Of Self-confidence?

As the lady walks into the room to give her presentation, everyone nods their head in approval as she exudes a cool, calm assurance that everything s under control. There s no describing self-confidence. You know it when you see it. There are many situations when we feel as if we could do anything, deal with any obstacle, take on any task or job yet at other times, we simply just run out of steam. Sandra Baptist tells us how we all can learn to exude that trait that makes us feel confident about what we are doing and about who we are. Increase your knowledge The best method to increasing your self-confidence is to work on improving your knowledge and abilities. Read books as a means to an end. Read books to gain information about what you need to know. Read as an end in itself. Read for pleasure. As a young person I ve always read, but you know what. I still lacked confidence in some areas. Reading is not all. Still you need to . Like yourself Liking yourself is equivalent to your self-worth and accepting yourself as you are. Your feelings about yourself are probably the most important feelings you can have. If you do not love...

Severe Stutter

Stutter or stuttering can have a dramatic effect on somebodys confidence. Fluent people really can not comprehend how hard it is to live your life with a speech impediment or stutter. I run one to one speech courses in Birmingham and one of my clients once told me about a situation he was involved in. He and his friends went to a bar one Saturday afternoon to have a few drinks. After a couple of pints he went up to the bar to order himself a drink. Unfortunately he could not speak all of the words fluently and the bar man accused him of being drunk and refused to serve him. He tried to explain that he was not drunk but had a stutter but the bar man said That s what they all say He returned to his friends who asked him where his drink was. He told them what had happened, this itself was very embarressing. This is a typical situation people who have a stutter find themselves in. Stuttering can affect many aspects of a persons life including: confidence friendships careers relationships school Now that I have overcome a stutter it is like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders and life is so much easier.

Take A Break From Tradition: Unique Gifts You Can Afford

Finding unique gifts for family and friends can be a challenge for even the most seasoned shopper. Throw in a dash of holiday madness, mass broadcast advertising and several pounds of flyers in your mailbox, and your head might be full of this year s newest must-have, but not particularly unique gifts. To make an impression, however, toss aside the traditional gift ideas that everyone will be giving and receiving and focus on finding unique gifts that reflect the interests and personality of your gift recipient. When looking for ideas for unique gifts, think about the person who will be receiving your present. What does he or she like to do for hobbies. Do you know his favorite color or her taste in music or clothing. What does this person need. Is he or she facing any major transitions in the immediate future. Creating an informal profile will help you come up with unique gifts to suit each person on your list. For example, if you are searching for unique gifts for your wife, take a look in her closet. What colors and styles do you see there. Perhaps you could borrow an outfit or two and take them to a jeweller as inspiration for...
